Good lesson horses are the key to any successful riding program. Dependable horses, suited to the level of the rider, are crucial to building confidence and self-esteem, as well as helping the rider to improve their skills. Many of our horses have been with us for years. Occassionally we welcome new additions selected to work into and remain in the program for years to come. Our lesson horses are loved and valued partners. Spruce Meadow's horses are suited to all levels of riding and are also successful in competition. We currently have 16 horses available for our lesson and lease program.
All of our horses are given the best care possible. They are turned out daily (weather permitting) for their physical and mental well-being. They are fed grain twice a day, and receive hay and have their water buckets filled three times a day. During the summer months, horses are fly-sprayed before being turned out or ridden to protect them from annoying insects. Horses are given at least one day a week off to prevent them being overworked. All horses receive regular veterinarian and farrier care to keep them in good health.

Maynard is a 33 year old dark bay Thoroughbred gelding. He is our oldest horse and lives in the first stall on the right when you enter our front barn!
Trixie is a sweet five year old mare. She is planning on becoming part of our lesson program as she progresses with her training.
Friday is another friendly member of our lesson program. She is very well behaved and she is fun to ride. She has become a favorite among our campers and a very reliable trail horse.
Pumpkin is a 12 year old chestnut pony mare. She is an excellent jumper and very athletic. Pumpkin can jump 2'6" courses and has jumped as high as 3'6". She also really enjoys cross country jumping!
Star is a 16 year old bay Quarter Horse mare who is just under 14.2 hands, making her a pony. She is quiet, gentle, and obedient. Star is also a very neat jumper, having cleared 3'6" effortlessly.
Sage
is a 16 year old Palomino Quarter Horse gelding. He is a very energetic pony. He went to the Erie County Fair 2 years ago where he competed in the Large Pony division, jumping 3' courses. He also enjoys eventing.
Chubby is a Shetland Pony gelding chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. He is an adorable, friendly little pony who has truly earned his name! Chubby's hobbies include breaking out of the barn, wandering loose around the property, and breaking into the feed room.
Mattie is a 27 year old liver chestnut Morgan mare. She is a popular lesson horse and is a very neat little jumper. She has wonderful manners, making her a favorite with new, young riders.
Rascal is 22 year old gelding. Like Mattie, he is a liver chestnut Morgan. He really helps build skills in students by sometimes presenting steering challenges and is also great to learn cantering on because he is very obedient and smooth at the canter.
Teddy is a big sweet heart. Though he is tall, looks can be deceiving; he is gentle, sweet and always tries his best to please you!
Aries is a beautiful member of our lesson program. He is an excellent horse for both beginners and advanced students. Though his appearence has its imperfections, he still maintains the image of a greek god. He has lovely gaits and an easy-going disposition.
Cisco is a 7 year old bay Quarter Horse gelding. Cisco is very cute, but occasionally we see his horns! He is very friendly, a nice mover and athletic jumper but can also act stubborn at times.
Sparkles is a 26 year old gray (not white!) Welsh pony. She is a rescue horse. Sparkles foundered and, as a result, her feet are sometimes sore, so she does not give lessons. Her job is to be spoiled and pampered. Last spring Sparkles was diagnosed with bone cancer. She gets lots of love and anything else she wants!
Molly is a beautiful dark bay mare. Though skinny when she came to us, Molly is now nice and round and more than eager to be a perfect lesson horse. She does quite well at both dressage and jumping.
Lucky is a pretty 16 year old chestnut Thoroughbred mare. She is very fast and jumps easily. Lucky also makes a lovely dressage horse!
Chigger is one of the newer members of our lesson program. He is a 6 year old Quarter Horse. He was a trail and pleasure horse before he came to Spruce Meadow. He is very pleasant to ride both in lessons and on the trail.
Misty is a beautiful 4 year old chocolate colored pony mare with a silver mane and tail. She is currently in training and is used in camp and beginner lessons. She is a nice size for small riders.
Nemo is a 13 year old large paint pony gelding. He is very agreeable to ride in addition to being talented. His pretty chestnut and white coloring make him one of the farm favorites.
Flirt just recently arrived and is a very feminine looking and pretty 16 hand Thoroughbred mare. She is sweet and everyone who has ridden her so far has enjoyed her. She is a nice hack and jumping horse.
Buttons is our newest pony. He is a small, black Shetland pony with a cute little roman nose with white markings and silky black hair. He is extremely easy-going and willing to do what he's asked.
